NAACP Randolph Chapter?A couple of years ago, an NAACP representative came to Randolph and I joined (I thought) the NAACP's "Blue Hills Area Branch" as a founding member. That branch never met, so I went to the Brockton Area Branch NAACP meeting tonight (Aug. 26, 2019) to ask what happened. They knew the answer! The Blue Hills Area Branch was created to represent Randolph, Canton, Stoughton, Milton, and Sharon. Towns southward are represented by the Brockton Area Branch. The national NAACP had some organizational difficulties with the Blue Hills Area Branch and it is currently in "receivership." Perhaps in a year or two that will get straightened out, but for now... Residents of Randolph can join the Brockton Area Branch, who will keep us informed of the status of the Blue Hills Area Branch, so we can split off when it becomes possible. In the meantime, we can be voting members of the Brockton Area Branch, but the rules are that executive committee members must live or work in Brockton's geographical region (that means, if your workplace is located south of Randolph, you can be an officer in the Brockton branch, otherwise you can only be a regular member). If you'd like to join the Brockton Area Branch, the application form is linked below. It's a $30 annual membership fee; just print out the one-page form and mail it to:
Brockton Area Branch NAACP meeting, Aug. 26, 2019, at the Messiah Baptist Church, 80 Legion Parkway, Brockton MA 02301 The next meeting of the NAACP-Brockton Area Branch will be held on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at the Messiah Baptist Church, 80 Legion Parkway, Brockton MA 02301. But there are three other events that you might be interested in, also: Those last two items are the most important reason to establish an NAACP branch in Randolph -- they host candidate debates and meet-the-candidate events, and we need more of those in Randolph! The Brockton NAACP also awards scholarships to high school graduates in its region -- which would be a gerat addition to Randolph High School's annual scholarship awards. And plenty of other good works too -- see http://naacp-brocktonbranch.org/ for details -- let's join and prepare for the Randolph branch to follow!
